Massage Therapy for Sciatica Symptoms

Massage Therapy for Sciatica Symptoms

Sciatica may cause pain, tingling, numbness, or burning that travels from the lower back or hip into the leg. Muscles surrounding the lower back and pelvis can sometimes contribute to these symptoms. Treatment begins by identifying the muscles involved and then addressing areas of tension or restriction. If you’re struggling with this condition, I’d be happy to discuss your symptoms and explain what I can and cannot help you with.

I also help clients with many other musculoskeletal concerns, including joint stiffness, sports recovery, and more.

FAQs

Pain is not always felt exactly where the problem originates. Tight or restricted muscles, trigger points, compensation, fascia, and surrounding soft tissue can all influence where discomfort is felt.

This is one reason I don’t automatically assume that the place you point to is the only place that needs attention. What I find when evaluating the area helps determine where the problem may actually be coming from and what needs to be worked on.

The muscle causing the problem isn’t always located directly underneath the place where you feel the symptoms.

Muscles can refer pain into another area, and one restricted area can cause other muscles to compensate. That’s why I may work above, below, or around the area where you’re feeling symptoms rather than spending the entire session directly on that spot.

Of course, I can’t guarantee anything. But what I can tell you is that my approach is very different than what you’ve experienced before.

I specialize in Site-Specific Deep Tissue Massage. This allows you and I to spend the time necessary working specifically on the area causing your problems.

Deep tissue is not just heavier pressure. Many therapists treat it that way, but that’s not how I perform it. To properly reach the deeper muscle tissue, I first have to take the time to work through and soften the layers of tissue above it.

That’s one of the reasons I use Site-Specific Deep Tissue Massage. Instead of trying to cover too much of the body at once, we spend our time working specifically on your primary problem area.

As we make progress, we can then broaden the scope and work on other muscles and areas that are contributing to the problem.
